Food Waste
Oregon has always been on the forefront of sustainable living and the Pacific Region Compost (PRC) facility is pleased to be keeping us on the cutting edge with a quality food waste recycling program. Our facility is the first in Oregon permitted to compost both green waste and food waste.
Good For Our Earth. Good For Your Business.
There are many reasons why this is good for Oregon and good for the environment.
As a local food waste composting option, the PRC helps cut down on transportation to and from processing facilities and offers a reliable, reasonably priced compost product for area gardeners, landscapers, farmers and large-scale growers of all kinds.
According to a study by the University of Arizona Garbage Project, Americans throw away 1.3 pounds of food every day, or 474.5 pounds per year. Typically, this material is thrown into the garbage and destined for landfills or into garbage disposals and then our sanitary sewers for processing.
Although combined food waste composting (meats and dairy in addition to fruit and vegetable scraps) is in its relative infancy, it is the right thing to do. That is why the PRC pioneered this technology to beneficially reuse more organic material.
Ask your local hauler or contact us if you are interested in food waste collection service. For more information on how to start a food waste recycling program click here.
